Hello and welcome! I am Rituparna Sarkar, a meteorologist and a researcher. This space is for archiving all my work.

I have spent 8+ years learning about thunderstorms and lightning over the Indian subcontinent. With the knowledge gathered from that learning, I have been developing indigenous lightning forecast systems at the short- to medium-range for India. Part of my work involves building a novel AI-NWP lightning-forecasting system named $C_{2AE}$, which addresses the data imbalance in classification models by using a two-autoencoder-based neural network. You can read more about $C_{2AE}$ in a book chapter and a research paper I published with my PhD supervisors and co-authors. The other half of my work involves implementing lightning parameterisation in IITM GFS and BFS, enabling lightning forecasts over India beyond 24 hours at 12 km and 6 km resolution, respectively.

As a PhD in atmospheric science, I am currently seeking a postdoctoral position.
